I was able to get tickets (luckily...they sold out in less than an hour) several weeks ago to the Clash of the Champions. The even tougher part was keeping my mouth shut about it until this week when I surprised Eryn with the tickets as an early birthday present. I'm not a huge tennis fan, but I have to admit it was quite the treat watching the best two players in the world (and possibly ever) go at it for a few games.Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka (in place of the injured Serena Williams) played first. Then they paired up with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal for some mixed doubles. Finally, things got a bit more serious as Federer and Nadal went head to head.
Of course, it wouldn't be a big time tennis event if John McEnroe didn't show up. He was fantastic as the guest umpire for the mixed doubles and he even jumped in for a point or two.
While we had a great time, the whole evening may have been a mistake on my part. As we pulled out of the parking lot after three hours of world class tennis Eryn made one thing perfectly clear..."You're never going to be able to top this."
